Sophie Wessex: Countess’ ‘classy and sophisticated’ engagement ring could be worth £60k

The Countess of Wessex’s engagement ring was bought from the former royal Crown Jeweller Garrard in London. The ring is a sparkling diamond version, featuring three stones.

Oval diamonds could be a good choice for an engagement ring, as Charlotte explained that due to their elongated shape, they “give the illusion of appearing larger than they are”.

The jewellery expert added: “This together with the side stones makes it a very substantial and beautiful ring which cannot go unnoticed, whilst remaining very classy and sophisticated.”

Mertixell Lavanchy, CEO of jeweller Bloomsbury Manor Ltd, agreed that Sophie’s ring is classy.

He said: “The Countess of Wessex’s engagement ring is a classic three stone design with a four pronged round cut diamond in the centre weighing approximately 1.5 to two carats.”

Some experts have claimed that it could have cost the Earl of Wessex around £35,000, while other reports have given the trio of jewels a valuation of as much as £105,000.

Charlotte White, Head of Design at 77 Diamonds, Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller, said that Sophie’s engagement ring matches the Countess of Wessex’s general style.

She said: “Sophie, Countess of Wessex is an impeccably stylish royal, who is always dressed with flair, whether for formal events or more low-key appearances.

“Perhaps similar to her choice of outfits, her engagement ring has an element of understated glamour, but with a small twist.

“The Gemmological Institute of America, which is the world-leading body for grading diamonds, refers to oval diamonds as ‘understated elegance, but with a difference’,” the jewellery expert added.
