Queen Elizabeth II news: Addresses ‘difficult year’ wearing brooch with significance
It was only Her Majesty’s second appearance between the bombshell interview with Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Oprah Winfrey on Monday last week. She wore a blue dress for the event and a large pearl brooch.
During the video, in which Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall also took part, the Queen thanked members of the Royal Voluntary Service.
She said: “Thank you to everybody who have been volunteering. It has been a great help over this difficult year.”
The Royal Voluntary Service is marking one year since launching the NHS Volunteer Responders project.
The scheme was devised to support the NHS during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Another woman held the title beforehand, Princess Augusta of Hesse.
She was Queen Mary’s grandmother, so Queen Elizabeth II’s grandmother’s grandmother.
The piece was likely crafted sometime around 1810 and is important to the Queen as one of her grandmother’s favourites.
In fact, Queen Mary wore it to then Princess Elizabeth’s christening, and many years later to Prince Charles’ christening.
When Queen Mary passed away it was left to Her Majesty.
In another recent appearance, the Queen wore a green outfit and large diamond brooch to speak with scientists, educators, and schoolchildren via video call last Friday.
The Queen opted for her famous pearl earrings and matched them with three strings of pearls around her neck.
On her left lapel, she wore her pearl trefoil brooch, which again complemented her choice of jewellery well.
This brooch, which Her Majesty has worn since the 1980s, has three top loops which mimic the three-fold design present in architecture.
