Lyric McHenry’s family have spoken out after the reality star was found dead in a New York street on Tuesday.
Lyric, a 26-year-old Stanford University graduate, had been out celebrating her birthday with a group of friends. Three hours after she’d shared what would be her final Instagram story enjoying the night, her half-naked body was discovered sprawled in a street in the Bronx.
She was wearing a pyjama top and underwear and allegedly had a small ziplock bag of cocaine in her possession.
New York Daily News also reported that Lyric, who appeared on her best friend EJ Johnson’s reality show EJNYC, was 20 weeks pregnant.
A day after her death, her family told People in a statement: “Despite the speculation in earlier reports, at this point in time the cause of Lyric’s death has yet to be determined.
“In contrast, what is factual and known is that Lyric who just turned 26 last week on August 6, was a brilliant, creative and lovely young woman who shared a deep passion for writing, film and a long-standing commitment to social justice.
“She was a Christian who grew up in Los Angeles and attended the Center for Early Education and graduated from the Marlborough School in Los Angeles.”
The statement spoke of her university education, volunteer work and that she was planning on moving back to Los Angeles where she was interviewing for media jobs and also preparing her applications for a business school MBA course.
The statement finished: “Lyric’s warmth, compassion and energy will be missed by many and the family would appreciate that all speculation surrounding the circumstances of death cease until the real facts are determined during the current investigation by the NYPD and the City of New York.”
The NYPD confirmed Lyric’s cause of death is yet to be determined and an investigation remains ongoing.
Hours before her body was found, she had posted a series of clips to her Instagram stories as she celebrated her birthday with friends.
The group visited The Frederick Hotel, SoHo Grand Hotel and Dream Downtown.
